Sancta Humanitas

Nox praecessit, dies autem appropinquavit

A dynamic parish for humankind, here and now: open to everyone, of any faith or none, whoever you are and whatever your story.

The seal of Sancta Humanitas: a shepherd carrying a lamb along a stone path towards a tower under a starlit sky.

Who we are

Humanity has many gifts. It does not need the promise of paradise or the fear of purgatory to know right from wrong. We believe it is the spark of faith within each of us that opens the way to the divine: to love and to be loved, to wrestle with life and to suffer through it, to know pain and joy in equal measure. To stand with one another in solidarity, not as something separate or apart, but as one part of a greater whole, in the love and spirit that Christ wished for us all.

That is humanity at its best, and we hold it sacred.

Sancta Humanitas means holy humanity. Our motto, Nox praecessit, dies autem appropinquavit – the night has passed, the day approaches – comes from Scripture, from St Paul's letter to the Romans. But that is not what makes it holy. What we see in those words is a promise: the intention to pierce the dark and shine a light for others to find their way, and the knowledge that each new day is a blessing, that there is hope, even when the day is long and the night seems longer still.

There is no stranger on the day. No barred gate.

If you wish to be known, we will know you. And we will stand beside you when you need us most.
